Prerequisites

  • Hold a degree attesting to a minimum of five years' postgraduate study in a scientific discipline relevant to the work being carried out

or have validated two years of higher education in a scientific discipline relevant to the work carried out and a minimum of five years of professional experience under the direct responsibilitý of a person holding a degree mentioned above.

Learning objectives

  • Mastering the fundamentals of animal ethics and the responsibilities of a project designer
  • Choosing an animal model and developing a scientific project using animals
  • To know the basics of ruminant and equine biology and the specificities of their use
  • Understand the operating principles and health management of a pet store housing these species

Regulations, ethics, 3Rs, ethics committees, SBEA, alternative methods, limit points, euthanasia, project authorisation, severity of procedures, model selection criteria, biostatistical databases

  • Specialised module for ruminants and equines (32.5 hrs)

Specific biology of ruminants and equines (ethology, anatomy, physiology), organisation and equipment of animal facilities, water quality, maintenance and enrichment techniques, observation of animals, health monitoring, pathologies, transport, anaesthesia, analgesia, euthanasia, interest in models, visit to a site and observation of minimally invasive procedures.
